Trivia Night feat Paul Tabachneck
Marcus Paul James
Marcus Paul James
Join Brooklyn native Singer/songwriter Marcus Paul James for an evening of Music, Love, and Soul.  With brand NEW MPJ music, some classic covers, and very special guests. So come grabs a drink, put your hand in the air and get ready to get your SOUL rocked.

Brooklyn native Marcus Paul James (MPJ) was born into a Baptist family with a Panamanian DJ father. He was raised in the church and singing in the choir loft as soon as he could stand. At home, MPJ was surrounded by the timeless voices of Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Teddy P, and other R&B greats. The influence of these artists etched love for R&B, soul, gospel and tender ballads into his soul. Growing as a singer/songwriter and with a love for new music and experiences in his blood, using nothing but his soulful voice and eclectic flair he landed a role in on Broadway, TV, and Film. Award-winning projects like “RENT”, “In The Heights”, NBC’s “The Wiz, and “The Greatest Showman”. In 2010 he released his first full-length album “Meant To Be” under Silver Towers Productions, in which the title track went on to chart on the UK soul charts. From that album “Wonderful Love” and “Right Now” would go to hold 1st and 3rd on those charts for 5 consecutive weeks. MPJ’s music shines as the perfect balance of Soul, R&B, and popular music. A true Singer/Songwriter whose lyrics and music take your heart and ears to places few artists do. MPJ’s recent EP releases “Paper Hearts” is a true testament to his vocal versatility and writing prowess.

Kate Mills
Kate Mills

Kate Mills is making her presence in the NYC music scene felt with the the recent release of her debut EP, Little Bird. The record showcases the versatility of her smooth, buttery vocals and the well-crafted songs ranging from the soulful and sultry “Little Bird,” to the fun, romantic single, “Cherry Tree” which makes the listener feel like they are on a stroll through Central Park on a Saturday afternoon.

In the brief time leading up to the EP release, this social worker-turned-songwriter has gained a solid fan-base by performed at some of New York’s most famous music venues including The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall and Pianos. She has been interviewed on several local radio programs including “Mind Over Music” hosted by Cari Cole. In this short time Kate has earned two nominations in the 2013 JAM Awards, and landed multiple TV performances, such as “The Gimme Mo Show” hosted by “High School Musical’s” Monique Coleman. In the coming spring, two of Kate’s songs can be heard in the feature film “Hits,” written and directed by David Cross of “Arrested Development”

Kate, who has been performing in front of audiences since she was 9, is no stranger to the stage. As a pre-teen, her voice carried her to multiple musical theater opportunities from performances with Debbie Gibson at the Merriam Theater in Philadelphia, to the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade. Throughout her adolescence, Kate continued to develop her piano and vocal skills while writing original music and performing in local showcases.

In college, Kate was a founding member of the band Drive Thru Parking, where she fell in love with the recording process. The group toured the northeast for several years, including a performance at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia in January of 2010. After 5 years with the band, Kate felt it was time to pursue her solo career in New York City and she and the band parted ways.

While Kate was transporting her large keyboard to and from rehearsals and performances, she was also juggling a rigorous course load at the University of Pennsylvania, earning her Master’s in Social Work. As one who continues to work towards raising awareness of emotional and mental health issues, Kate is always looking for opportunities to merge her love of music with the pursuit of social good. “I believe music, at it’s core, is emotional. It’s not only a platform for raising awareness about important social issues, but music itself can offer healing, expression, and create genuine connections that help us feel less isolated and alone.” She continues to draw on her experiences as an adolescent social worker in her songwriting.

Alex Miller Trio
Alex Miller Trio

Miller’s voice projects something smooth and refreshing. His sound, deep and unique, stretches across a variety of instrumental influences from Phish to Queens of the Stone Age to John Mayer. He came out with this first CD, “Off Season,” at 18, to a crowd of summer acquaintances in 2004. A growing audience encouraged him to invest in a major recording “Just a Dream” released in August 2010. Overwhelmed by the success of his CD release at New York City’s Canal Room, Miller spent months self-booking and self-promoting a successful nationwide summer tour in 2011. As his foot was out the door for that tour in May 2011, a group of investors agreed to support his working on a third CD, titled “Chin Up, Buckle Down, and Let Go.” The songs on this CD chronicle a generic journey across the nation as well as specific events that occurred at stops along the way. “Chin Up, Buckle Down, and Let Go” will release in May 2012. Miller says: “As much fun as it is to be a singer/songwriter, I still prefer the energy of a crowd.” Since moving to New York in 2009, he has played at a number of venues including (le) Poisson Rouge, The Canal Room, The Knitting Factory, Rockwood Music Hall, The Living Room, The Bitter End, National Underground, and his regular spot–Prohibition. Miller relishes in gaining a fan base and getting his songs heard “the old fashion way”– by performing them.

J.D. Shelburne
J.D. Shelburne

In releasing his latest albumn, JD Shelburne feels he has recorded the album that could take him to a whole new level. “I’ve been working really hard on this album. I think it is my best collection of songs that I’ve released thus far,” he says of his fourth project. He says that he’s definitely learned a lot since he released his first disc that was self-titled, back in 2012. JD hails from Taylorsville, KY and has been performing since 2002. Shelburne graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2007. While attending college, he discovered a guitar and quickly taught himself to play and sing.  After moving to Nashville in 2008, his career burst on to the national scene.  Shelburne has performed over 2000 shows, opened for 50 National Acts such as Kellie Pickler, Chris Young, Montgomery Gentry and more , been featured on CMT,  GAC TV, NBC, Country Radio and many National Publications.  He most recent accomplishment landed him his network television premier on CMT for his latest single “One Less Girl”. Shelburne was recently awarded “Alumni of the Year” from the University of Kentucky for his accomplishments and charities he has helped throughout his career. His story started from “grassroots” and his music comes from the heart. Shelburne just released his single to radio “One Less Girl” and is out promoting that currently and will make a stop in NYC at Prohibition!

Paul Tabachneck
Paul Tabachneck

I’m a singer-songwriter based in Harlem. When asked what kind of music I do, I call it Pop-Folk, because I play the acoustic guitar and go for bright soaring melodies. My favorite artists are Bill Withers, Elvis Costello, and Patty Griffin.

Todd Carey
Todd Carey
The New York-based artist previously hit the top forty iTunes charts with his 2010 EP release After the Morning After. In support of his 2007 debut, Watching Waiting (Fontana), he played over 250 dates, with sellout shows in Chicago and Wisconsin, dazzling audiences with his pop song smarts, masterful guitar playing and exuberant stage presence. Carey has toured nationally and performed on stage with such diverse artists as Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Marc Broussard, Brendan James, Jason Reeves, Keaton Simons and Matt Duke. Since 2010 he has been a fixture at the annual Hotel Carolina music festival. His music has been featured in MTV’s The Real World and movies such as Palo Alto and True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet.

Future Throwback is the culmination of all this past work and the album feels like a celebration of self-realization. It’s Todd Carey in Technicolor, the purest and most vibrant representation of his live show, charming, flirtatious, frisky and bubbling over with good vibes.
Main Sail
Main Sail

Mainsail is New York’s newest and hottest Yacht Rock band.  They perform hits by the likes of Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, George Michael, and many others.  The band is characterized by the ultra polished sounds that emanated from Southern California during the late ’70s and early ’80s, and tunes which reference nautical themes and leisurely activities like sipping champagne.

Mainsail features the outstanding vocal work of frontman Jake Owen, an internationally acclaimed guitarist/producer whose touring/recording credits include Augustana, Forró in the Dark, Goldspot, and BoDeans.  He’s also the co-founder of DO Sounds, whose corporate clients include ABC, MTV, Twitter, Smithsonian Earth, Microsoft, Dell, and Alienware among others. Mainsail’s core group culls from a diverse array of New York’s finest musicians who frequently tour internationally.  Stan Killian, saxophonist and group founder has recorded with NYC’s top jazz artists such as Roy Hargrove, David Binney, Antonio Sanchez, Jeremy Pelt, Eric Harland, just to name a few. In addition to having three critically acclaimed albums on the prestigious Sunnyside Records label, he leads his band every second Tuesday at NYC’s legendary 55 Bar.  Lead guitarist Jon Heagle has played in just about every kind of band one could name, from jazz combos to honky-tonks, rock concert stages to the circus. Heagle too leads his group and is an in-demand commercial guitarist and producer, most recently with Shine and The Moonbeams. Electric bassist Bryan Copeland leads his own group called The Aardvarks, which Time Out NY described in a recent review as a “charming jazz quartet, infused with a wistful pop sensibility”.  Shareef Taher’s powerful drumming and superb musicianship rounds out the Mainsail sound, creating an irresistible dance groove that makes for a memorable night!

Uncle Jesse Band*
Uncle Jesse Band*

Back in the early 2000s, when 90s Nostalgia was just beginning to bloom, a few college friends decided that if they ever lived in the same city, they would form a 90s cover band.  When the crew came to New York City and a full decade had passed since the glory days of their youth, they knew it was time.  For over four years now, Uncle Jesse has been building its reputation around NYC as the most epic 90s Music Experience in town- not only by playing everything from No Doubt to TLC to Green Day to Blackstreet- but also through their outrageous costumes and eventful performances which have included pie-in-the-face game shows and on-stage proposals. Comprised of top-notch studio musicians and five professional singers, this is the band you want to see and book for your next party.

Gideon King and City Blog
Gideon King and City Blog

In 2015, Gideon King & City Blog(GKCB) released a full length CD, City Blog.  The music was met with wide critical acclaim, as the Huffington Post called King a “musical genius” and countless publication praised the musicianship and subtlety of the work. King has a reputation as a rising force in the New York fusion/rock/jazz scene and has worked with John Scofield, members of Steely Dan, Conrad Sewell,  and many other musical giants.

GKCB  will be releasing their newest album, Upscale Madhouse, in March of 2018 and studio reports suggest that if anything the work is even more refined, abstract, and compelling than in the first release.  The album features musical luminaries such as solo artist Marc Broussard, Grammy winner Grace Weber (Chance The Rapper), legendary guitarist John Scofield, Conrad Sewell (Kaigo), Elliott Skinner (Third Story), Gregoire Moiret (The Pat Metheny Group), James Genus (Daft Punk, Herbie Hancock), Kevin Hayes (John Scofield, Steve Gadd), Carolyn Leonhart (Steely Dan), Donny McCaslin (David Bowie), Brendan Fletcher (semifinalist on The Voice), and many more top flight musicians.

It doesn’t stop there though, as the album includes work from established New York City session musicians and producers such as Adrian Harpham (Dr. John, Joss Stone), Nathan Peck (Alex Skolnick Trio), Grammy winner Luques Curtis (Eddie Palmieri), Donald Edwards (Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard), Bryan Reeder (Chris Norton), among others. He has also introduced a number of incredibly talented up-and-coming musicians into the mix such as Kate Kelsey-Sugg, Mike Stephensen, and Liam Budge.

GKCB is excited to announce that as part of their evolution they are at long last performing live. King has assembled an impressive group of musicians, nearly all of whom are part of Upscale Madhouse, to perform in select venues. The first few shows have been packed-house affairs and extremely well-received.

Roderick grew up playing piano, self taught by learning whatever MTV was playing in the early 2000’s. Shortly after high school he was discovered by a small Nashville publishing company and was soon off to Tennessee to live the air conditioned and often, isolated life of a songwriter. He began traveling back to his home state of California more often, initially as a release but all the back and forth began to have a strong pull on his sound. The carefree, let it flow sound he originally harnessed while in California was now being married to the roots and bluesy aura that grew on him in Tennessee. From Elton John to Dylan, Ryan Adams to Alabama Shakes, and in the spirit of honest songwriting everywhere, Roderick August is about something real. Trapped in Static
Trapped in Static

Trapped In Static (TIS.) made their New York City debut in 2011 as an alternative rock/indie band featuring singer/guitarist Athan Hilaki (formerly of GAD.) and drummer David Torres. Athan’s dynamically strong vocals feature a falsetto and a hint of raspy power that are often compared to vocal legends like Bono, Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder and Scott Stapp. David’s drum rhythms take their influence from Kings Of Leon, Phoenix and Interpol. The core of the band is completed with Gina Rebelo on bass (formerly of Three Day Threshold) and influences from Bootsy Collins to John Paul Jones, creating the foundational surge for the listener to truly become part of the music. Using the depth of life experiences as inspiration for their lyrics, the band strive to connect with the listener through rock-and-roll infused messages of overcoming obstacles with a tinge of sorrow-filled hope.

“We’re all trying to escape the static that surrounds us,” says Athan. “We all seem to be trapped in some way, and the theme of our music is to find ways to break free from the things that hold you back.  I’m not just saying the lyrics, I’m feeling them.”

Todd Carey
Todd Carey
“I fought for this record,” confesses singer-songwriter Todd Carey. The acclaimed artist set out to make a career-defining album with Future Throwback. His quest spanned three years, tracking in four states, shelving three records and feverishly writing 70 songs. The outcome is a euphoric pop record that’s playfully irreverent and brimming with sleek urban beats and swaggering pop hooks. Rarely has an artist been this serious about showing his audience a good time.

“When I look back on making this album, I feel I achieved my goal as a writer,” Carey says. “I sleep well at night because I made this record.”

The leadoff single “Nintendo” is the invitation to the party. On it, Todd flows sugary rhymes and, with 1980s retro whimsy, name checks Captain Crunch, Battleship, and shoes with pumps. “We wanted to keep things sexy with the grooves and beats and fun with those throwback lyrics,” Carey says of the tune’s intent. “Those references, mixed with the modern sensibility of the track, create a really cool modern/retro juxtaposition that lives throughout the record.”

Overall, it’s an assured and expansive album. Carey emancipates himself from genre confines and applies his refined songcraft to a mix of beat-driven pop, brawny rock riffage, intimate singer-songwriter moments and a potpourri of urban-flavored blends. He smolders on the R&B-flavored mid tempo “Dead and Gone,” eases back with balmy reggaeton on “Light Her Up” and swanks on the stadium rocker “Forget Ya.”

During the writing process, Carey found a complimentary talent in top-line writer and lyricist K Nita. The two were introduced via Kanye West recording engineer Ken Lewis and forged an instant connection. “The ‘eureka’ moment was writing ‘Light Her Up’ together in 30 minutes. We knew we had something great and just kept collaborating after that,” he explains. “Together we brought out the melody, humor, pocket and style necessary to create the body of work I was looking for.”

Though Future Throwback is meticulously modern, its origins are old school organic. Each track Carey wrote in the studio, he would debut live to gauge its potency. He thoroughly road tested 70 songs and carved out an eleven-song album from the tracks that had that instant jolt of artist-to-audience electricity. Taken has a whole, the album is refreshingly eclectic, a distinct melange of urban bounce and pop-rock strut. To make his vision seamless, Carey oversaw production duties alongside varied but compatible producers Adam Smith (Jason Reeves, Jordin Sparks, Danny Gokey) and Aaron Johnson (Secondhand Serenade, Katie Herzig, Eve6, The Fray).

“I set out to make an album that reflects me – playing these songs makes me feel alive. This has been the most painstaking, frustrating and, ultimately, rewarding artistic process,” Carey says. “It has established my identity for the rest of my life.”

Andy Mac
Andy Mac

Born into a family of musicians, Andy Mac came out singing and hasn’t stopped yet.

Andy Mac writes pop songs for people who don’t think they like pop music. Although the hooks and harmonies are pleasurably addictive, the lyrical focus skews darker, speaking to an earnest melancholy familiar to fans of staring out of their windows late at night.

Finishing days before he left, Andy brought his debut album, “Music for a Bright Moon Sky” (Stay Clean Music) to New York City from Buffalo, NY. A fully independent effort released on his own label, he played nearly every instrument himself. The album completely sold out of its first run, and music from that release was featured on FOX, MTV, and on XM Radio.

His sophomore release, titled “Struggle Fantastic”, is at once more positive and more introspective, and reveals a maturing artist working through increasingly complicated situations in an effort to find redemption. Funded completely by pledges from Andy’s fans, the album was released along with a complete surprise album entitled “410”, which was recorded in the empty home where Andy grew up.

In 2019, Andy will release “Beggar Billionare”, his fourth album. This album has also been completely funded by Andy Mac’s fans and friends through their generous pledges and shows Andy’s growth as an artist and human.

James Gedeon
James Gedeon

Upon arriving in New York as a graduate student in the late 1980s, James Gedeon immediately began honing his craft in the Greenwich Village music scene in storied venues like The Village Gate, The Back Fence and The Red Lion. By the mid 90s, James had developed a reputation as a singer and songwriter able to make even individuals in the farthest reaches of a venue feel as though they were right up front.

James has since performed at New York's famed LeCirque; The Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center and The Waldorf Astoria Grand Ballroom where he was part of the opening band for Dan Aykroyd and the Blues Brothers at The Alzheimer's Foundation annual fundraiser. He has also been able to take his music to areas outside of New York, having performed in Washington D.C. at the Smithsonian; The Harvard Club in Boston; in West Virginia at the renowned Greenbrier Resort; the Rocky Mountain resort of Flathead Lake in Kalispell, Montana; Mauna Kea Resort in Kailua Kona, Hawaii; The Ocean Club (twice) on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, and he even performed for the King and Queen at the Royal Palace in Morocco.

James has also taken the stage at Pebble Beach Golf Club in California with New York's acclaimed Stingers Band (a gig that had James providing an acoustic opening set for comedian Jerry Seinfeld's performance to an audience that included Clint Eastwood). In addition, he's opened for America, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jay Leno, Dana Carvey and Livingston Taylor. He has also performed with guitarists Oz Noy and Bernie Williams, drummers Dave Weckl and Steve Holley, sax man Mark Rivera (Billy Joel, Ringo Starr, Foreigner) and shared the stage at a private event in Vermont with Harry Connick, Jr.

James also performed at the wedding of radio personality Howard Stern. During the ceremony, James accompanied Dixie Chick Natalie Maines on the couple's wedding song, and followed that up by performing 3 duets with music icon Billy Joel. Later that same night, as a member of the house band, James backed up Phoebe Snow in addition to Pat Monahan of Train on the band's hits "Calling All Angels" and "Drops of Jupiter".

In 2016, James appeared as a finalist and was chosen as the winner of the 19 and over category in "Morristown OnStage" at the Mayo Performing Arts Center for his rendition of James Taylor's "Shower The People" in front of a packed house of 1,300 people. That performance led to Gedeon opening for the iconic band "America" at an April 2016 concert at a sold-out MPAC in Morristown, a show at which James received rave reviews from the audience, and from America.

Currently in the studio recording new material for his upcoming album and in rehearsals for his James Taylor tribute show, Gedeon continues to pursue his music with the same passion that drove him during his early performances in Greenwhich Village more than 25 years ago.

Some of James' most notable music clients have included ESPN Radio, Life Project For Africa, CNN, WPLJ, 77WABC in New York and The New York Jets.

Alex Miller
Alex Miller

TBH is based in New York and performs anywhere their journey takes them. So go check out the music! We all need some saving.
